Eye Care Specialists of SWFL, previously known as Groom Eye Center, was founded in 2007 by Dr. Mimi Groom, a leading expert in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. The practice has blossomed and grown to become a comprehensive center of excellence in ophthalmic care and surgery. Current owner, Dr. Giselle Martin, a well experienced ophthalmologist with more than 20 years of practice, has decided to continue this legacy with continued advancements and growth for excellent care of our patients. Dr. Robert Sherman has also been part of ECS for several years and forms an integral part of the comprehensive patient care treating retina conditions and performing minor plastic surgeries.
a board certified general ophthalmologist specializing in small incision cataract surgeries with a concentration in premium intraocular implants, pterygium removals and early detection and treatment of glaucoma. She also performs other services such as refraction, contact lens fitting, dry eye evaluation and retinal diagnosis.
Dr. Martin received her Bachelor of Science after completing only three years of college in an accelerated program. She then attended the University of Puerto Rico Medical School, where she also completed her residency program in Ophthalmology.
Fully bilingual in Spanish and English, Dr. Martin has worked in a successful private practice since her training and has contributed to the ophthalmology residency program as an Assistant Professor of the University of P.R. with direct surgical and clinical teaching and supervision of residents.
She is currently living in the Naples area and continues her pursuit of excellent patient care, diagnosis and treatment.
Dr. Robert Sherman
is a board certified ophthalmologist with subspecialty fellowship training in retina. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Sherman attended New York University where he completed his undergraduate work and Medical school training. He served his Residency and Internship training at New York Medical School and Queens General Hospital in New York.
Dr. Sherman served in the United States Army, earning the rank of Major and Chief in Ophthalmology. He is affiliated with the following hospitals; Parkway Medical Center, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and North Miami Beach Surgical Center.
His Professional associations and memberships include the American Medical Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology, Florida Medical Association, Dade County Medical Association, and The Miami Ophthalmology Association.
In addition of the sub-specialty of Retina, Dr. Sherman also performs Upper Lid Blepharoplasty in the office.

She is recognized nationally as a leading expert in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. In addition, she offers comprehensive ophthalmology services, including diagnosis and therapy for dry eyes, as well as corneal and retinal diseases.
Born in South Korea, Dr. Groom moved to the United States as a young child and graduated from New York University, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree. She then attended the State University of New York at Stoney Brook as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Groom served an internship at St. Lukes / Roosevelt Hospital in New York City and completed her Ophthalmology residency training at the prestigious New York Eye & Ear Infirmary. She continued her education with a Glaucoma Fellowship with Dr. Robert Ritch, also at New York Eye & Ear Infirmary.
Dr. Groom accepted a position at Cleveland Clinic Florida in Ft. Lauderdale and served as a staff ophthalmologist for six years. During this time, she published articles, presented at scientific meetings and was involved in student teaching and training. When Cleveland Clinic opened its doors in Naples, she located as the head of the department and set up the Department of Ophthalmology where she also served in various committees. In 2007, Dr. Groom pursued private practice with emphasis on highest quality general ophthalmology, cataract surgery and glaucoma care. Dr. Groom is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology.
